Hannah Mariam M Selassie
Hannah Mariam has a BA in Law/History from the University of Westminster, London UK and an MA in Communication from Bethel University, St. Paul Minnesota USA. She also has a diploma in Journalism from the London School of Journalism.
Hannah Mariam’s professional career spans over twenty-five years as an advertising executive, and senior communication specialist in the corporate setting in the United Kingdom, and the United States. As a Professor she has long-term academic experience with over 13 years of teaching communication, writing curriculum and developing new syllabi at postgraduate level. She is also an author, public speaker, freelance writer, journalist and news analyst.
Working in Ethiopia she brings her international corporate work expertise to Africa and the rest of the globe. She is the board chairperson for an Ethiopian civil society YeQaQe Women New Year Women & Youth Empowerment for Resilient Citizen focusing on climate adaptation policies and an editor for WeAspire, a Washington DC based think tank focused on water and trade in Africa.
In 2018 she published her first book, It Was Only Yesterday where she shares memories of her childhood in pre-revolution Ethiopia and the return to her home country 25 years later. In her most recent work she authored a chapter in the newly published book Africa Hall, a Monument to African History which traces the story of the founding of Africa Hall at the UNECA in 1961 and the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963. She writes on important topics such as AGOA (the African Growth Opportunities Act), and BRICS and also does in-depth interviews. She is currently editing a book focused on Ethiopian women leaders that is destined for the US, African and Caribbean market.
